The Awareness Foundation was founded in 2003 in response to the disturbing increase in religious conflict and violence around the world. The Patron is the Archbishop of Canterbury. It is based in London, with offices in Washington DC and Damascus.
The Foundation was established to help Christians make sense of their faith in the 21st century, and to increase awareness of their neighbours’ faiths and cultures, so that they can live in a diverse society without fear and without compromising their beliefs. Greater understanding among religions and among peoples will ultimately defeat extremism, and help nurture an environment where people can live together in peace.
The Foundation has two key vehicles:
1) The Awareness Course is the Foundation’s education programme, and the Foundation works to make the Awareness Course available to peoples across the world.
2) The Awareness Forum consists of special events to bring together opinion leaders for dinners, conferences, delegations and exchanges, roundtables and lectures, focusing on religious and cultural issues of the day; and commentary on topical issues.
The Awareness Foundation is a registered charity in England and Wales.
