Middle East

In the Middle East, the Awareness Foundation works through a team of volunteers who are helping us to spread our vision and mission in that region. We work in Syria, Lebanon, Jordan and Palestine. We enjoy the support of different denominations including the National Evangelical Synod of Syria and Lebanon, the Greek Orthodox Church, the Episcopal Church and the Catholic Church.

Huda Nassar is our Director for the Middle East, and the Revd Fa'eq Haddad is Director for Jordan and Palestine.

Our Objectives

We work to:

• Build bridges between East and West through delegations, pilgrimages and lectures in order to encourage and nourish a meaningful dialogue;
• Preserve and support the Christian presence and identity in the Middle East and encourage Middle Eastern Christians to remain in their homelands; and
• Provide ecumenical and educational programmes to tackle the many issues facing Christianity today, including its relationship with different cultures and religions.

Our Programmes

In the Middle East,the Foundation has three key vehicles:

• The Awareness Course is our education programme; written in Arabic for a Middle Eastern audience, it equips people for life in a diverse world, examining issues that affect every one of us, such as fundamentalism, the impact of globalisation around the world, and consumerism. The Awareness Course can be taught anywhere and by anyone.;
• Our Travelling Fellowship programme sends Middle Eastern Christian leaders to the West to speak about their views and share their experiences. The aim of this programme is to overcome misconceptions and ignorance prevalent in the West concerning Christianity in the Middle East.; and
• Our programme of Delegations & Pilgrimages brings people from the UK, US and Far East to experience life in the Middle East and to engage with Christians and Muslims living side by side for centuries.
